Once, a sandy region stretched from the Gödöllő Hills all the way to the Danube, decorated with marshlands, lush meadows, lowland streams and gallery forests. However, the environmental destruction that began in the 1990s wiped out most of the area’s natural values. Yet, a handful of conservationists fought to preserve the last remaining natural treasures, and they continue to struggle for the survival of their beloved, scarred landscape.
