The Tisza River has meandered through the Great Hungarian Plain for millennia. Since humans arrived along its banks, they have tried to put the river to use. They drink its water, irrigate with it, have cut and straightened it. Fifty years ago, they stopped it to create a reservoir. At that time, they did not know their work would bring the ancient world of the Tisza back to life. Built by humans, inhabited by nature – this is how this human-made paradise, Lake Tisza was created.
