North-west of Lake Balaton, there is a thermal lake unique in Hungary – Hévíz Lake. Today, the lake serves as the site of a special but entirely spontaneous ecological experiment. Both the lakebed and the outflow channel, known as the Hévíz stream, have become home to tropical fish species. But how did this species-rich, yet alien community of life come into being? And what could their presence mean for the native wildlife?
